Stages of Homeschooling: Beginnings (Book 1) – eBook

Which stage of homeschooling are you in? Are you new, somewhat experienced, ready to graduate one of your children or waving good-bye to your youngest? Stages of Homeschooling is a series of three eBooks that offer ideas and information for each stage of the homeschooling journey:

Beginnings  –  Enjoying the Journey  –  Letting Go

Writer Barbara Frank spent the last 25 years homeschooling her four children to adulthood and writing several books, including Thriving in the 21st Century, The Imperfect Homeschooler’s Guide to Homeschooling and Life Prep for Homeschooled Teenagers. Now she’s combined new material with some of her many articles and blog posts to create four eBooks that will encourage and inform you as you go through the four stages of homeschooling.

Stages of Homeschooling: Beginnings (Book 1)

Are you thinking about homeschooling your child, or have you just recently begun homeschooling?

Are you looking for practical information from someone who’s lived the homeschooling life?

Do you need evidence (for yourself or for relatives and friends) of why you shouldn’t send your child to public school?

Are you looking for homeschool encouragement?

If you answered “yes” to even one of those questions, then Stages of Homeschooling: Beginnings is for you. Author Barbara Frank wants to encourage and inform those who are just beginning the homeschool journey.

This book is divided into seven sections:

  • “Why Choose Homeschooling?” (Great reasons to homeschool your children)
  • “What’s Wrong with Public Schools?” (Why today’s public schools make homeschooling more attractive than ever)
  • “Advice for New Homeschoolers” (Homeschool how-to’s and suggestions)
  • “Surviving the Early Years” (Teaching your preschoolers)
  • “Becoming a Homeschooling Parent” (Taking on your new role)
  • “Handling Doubts, Fears and Hurdles” (Because the prospect of homeschooling can be daunting, especially at the beginning)

Reviews for Stages of Homeschooling: Beginnings:

Do you like the idea of homeschooling, but fear that you won’t be able to do it right? Barbara Frank lays out her own misgiving and common arguments for why it can’t be done and shoots them all down one by one.

The also addresses the importance of homeschooling and it’s competitive advantages.

The book is written in a very neutral style. If you aren’t a fan of homeschooling, you won’t come away feeling like you were an enemy that she was lamblasting the whole time.

By the time you finish this book, you will either be chomping at the bit to homeschool or at least understand the motivations of others that do.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A much needed trip back to the basics August 6, 2013 By Joey Lopez

This book was just what I needed. In my second year of homeschooling, I had begun to find myself caught up in co ops, play groups, classes and activities that I was feeling overwhelmed and pressured. Homeschooling is teetering on the brink of becoming exactly what we were trying to avoid; a highly competitive race, in which none of the competitors remembers the journey. Thank you Mrs. Frank for reminding me why I chose to home school. Not to make my child better than anyone else, but to allow him to be the best that he can be.

I’d recommend this book to anyone thinking about homeschooling their child. The book was easy to read and simple to understand. I realized that I didn’t have to be like everyone else and can make my own path for teaching my child at home. The book gives some good starting points whether you have a preschooler or an older child. Can’t wait to read her other books.
As a homeschool mom myself, it was great to see that others also have faced and conquered the same type of issues! My son is a second generation homeschooled child(3rd grader right now) I have recomended this book to other homeschool moms! Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars great intro to homeschool April 9, 2014 By Laine

I appreciated the quick read and short easy to read sections. An easy book to start and stop and start again as every busy mom does! It’s a great start to get one’s feet wet. The tips and extra resources are worth the cost of this book!

I bought this book because I was thinking of homeschooling my daughter. It provides a lot of information on why you should homeschool your child. It also tells you a lot of what to expect. Very helpful.

This book was a great read. I am currently entering my 5th year of homeschooling so I was not the target audience of new or considering homeschooling but still gained great insight from this book. I was also pleasantly surprised at the author’s appreciation for the home school dad. So many forget or undermine the part of the supporting spouse. Great read. I plan to check out the others in this series.

This was an excellent book that gave me a great overall ideas around home schooling and what to expect. I will say that the author is very biased in her opinions towards home homeschool vs public school. She has very critical things to say for someone that has never sent any of her children to a public school. I enjoyed reading the book, it was easy to read and the links provided were excellent. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
